Eric’s Story

030Mainstay Life Services provides compassionate, specialized supports to help those in our care achieve their greatest life goals and lead fulfilling lives. Just ask Eric, who has experienced new places and made new friends thanks to Mainstay.

Eric began receiving services from Mainstay’s semi-independent program shortly after he graduated from high school in 2004. Since moving into a Mainstay home, a staff member has visited with Eric daily to help with tasks such as grocery shopping and medication management. Most importantly, he has learned how to manage money to support his love of travel.

After saving for many months, Eric and his best friend Dominic (pictured left)– who met on a group trip several years ago – traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada. With much excitement, the two men worked closely with Mainstay staff to book their flight, secure a hotel room and plan daily activities. They enjoyed visiting attractions like the Fremont Street Experience and the M&M store, but the highlight of Eric’s trip was The Neon Museum.

“I collect neon signs and couldn’t wait to see the old Las Vegas signs in what they call the bone yard,” said Eric. “Seeing all of those neon signs together was like a dream come true. I wish I could have brought one home with me.”

Eric did not think he would have the chance to visit a far away destination, so he was very excited to make this Las Vegas trip with his best friend a reality. We at Mainstay were happy to help Eric achieve this goal and look forward to helping him plan many more adventures in the future.
