Technology Support

Mainstay is dedicated to integrating technology solutions for the people we support to enhance their health, wellness, safety, and independence. This focus on embracing technology solutions is more than an initiative – it’s our commitment to redefining the human services industry.

Remote Supports

Remote supports help the people we work for to live more independently. Each person in our residential program has completed a thorough assessment to determine how technology can help them to thrive. For some this means they access assistance remotely for a portion of their day.

Mainstay opened its first remote support home in 2022, added its second in 2023, and in 2024, we brought remote monitoring in-house. Partnering with ShiftAbility, we continue to accelerate our technology efforts. The use of remote supports enables people to live more independently, and also permits Mainstay to redeploy team members to support people who require more in-person services.

Telehealth

Mainstay partnered with StationMD in 2021 to deliver telehealth by practitioners who specialize in serving people with intellectual disabilities and autism. Through secure videoconferencing and a connected care management tool, people living in all Mainstay residential programs can receive real-time medical consultation to avoid unnecessary trips to the doctor or an emergency room. In 2022, Mainstay expanded our partnership to include Behavioral Health and Psychiatric Telehealth Services. This crucial program provides those who need it with access to psychiatrists who are specially trained to support people with intellectual disabilities and autism and mental health needs.

Boundless Opportunities

We continually consider ways to enhance a person’s services and support through technology. At Mainstay, technology isn’t just about convenience, it’s a means for enhancing health, wellness, safety, and independence, and it’s crucial for the people we support. The scope of technology is boundless, and we support people as they use a variety of innovations including communication boards, medication dispensers, electric bicycles, bed shakers, mobility aids, tablets, and so much more. Through an assessment tool, we are able to match a person’s skills, interests, and abilities with technology that can help them succeed.

More About SHIFT

SHIFT is an education and accreditation platform that is advancing and standardizing Technology First best practices and programs. SHIFT’s curriculum and accreditation process were created to support organizations and team members within the intellectual disabilities and autism field as they work to adopt a Technology First culture. Pairing people trained with this knowledge with the possibilities offered by technology leads to positive outcomes for persons served, support teams, organizations, and the human services sector.

SHIFT Accreditation

In 2021, after a 2+ year focus on Technology Solutions, Mainstay became the first Pennsylvania provider to receive the Technology First Accreditation from SHIFT. During 2023, we went through the re-accreditation process through which we developed a comprehensive and dynamic technology plan that is helping us to grow our technology-enabled services. The recertification process also included surveys with people supported and families, staff training, and more. Mainstay has been re-accredited by SHIFT through February 2026.
